Foundations of Education, is a core paper in REd. curriculum in Andhra Pradesh and aims to train/prepare the student teachers, teacher educators and other school professionals for interpreting knowledge within its historical, philosophical, cultural and social contexts. The syllabus for this book has been divided into ten units. Each unit provides a deep insight for making student teachers profound and adopt in building a knowledgeable society. Unit-I is on Introduction to Philosophy and Education, and deals with the aims, objectives and values of education. The trainee teachers will be able to understand that Philosophy is the base for setting aims in the educational system of a country. Unit-II highlights various schools of thought with special emphasis on the educational implications. The prospective teacher will apply the principles of Idealism, naturalism, pragmatism and existentialism for a better and suitable, teaching learning process. Unit-III describes the impact of Indian Philosophical thought on education. The educational thought of Rabindranath Tagore, Mahatma Gandhi, Vivekananda, Sri Aurobindo and Jiddu Krishna Murthy will ignite the minds of pre-serviced teachers for establishing a strong and good conceptual framework.
