520 _aNew Saucerian is proud to reissue the original version of T. Lobsang Rampa's Doctor from Lhasa, which was first published by Gray Barker in 1959 (and includes an introduction by him). This was the first book by Rampa ever published in the United States. After it was released, a very heated controversy arose, which is still continuing. Rampa's contention that a Tibetan lama was writing "through" him, and had fully occupied his body, was not one to which many Westerners were likely to give credence. Many of them, however, were confounded by Rampa's obvious mastery of the subject, opening wide a door on a fascinating and little-known part of the world, despite his having no record of previous literary ability. No one was able to disprove his story. Whatever the truth of the matter may be, it is right that Doctor from Lhasa be made available to the general public once again. It stands on its own merit, and is highly enjoyable. On the larger, more fundamental issues it raises, every listener must come to a personal decision. It is possible that this book may be the absolute truth - yet another product of the incredible powers of the holy men of the Himalayas, who are said to have projected their reincarnations into the hilly areas of America, to avoid the holocaust brought by the Chinese to Tibet? Could we, as a nation, be ignoring one of the greatest gifts we have ever received?
