This user-friendly handbook helps counselor educators develop skills to teach students who are participating in distance learning classes. The purpose of this book is to help counselor educators and other faculty members expand their knowledge and skills of the distance learning technologies, methodologies, and related issues that are necessary to develop distance learning courses. Part one provides a conceptual framework of distance learning terminology and theoretical underpinnings. Part two provides a discussion of the how to of the planning process within the context of counselor preparation. Part three focuses on a description of the issues involved in teaching a counseling course via the two most commonly used distance learning technologies-- videoconferencing and online courses. Finally, part four furnishes a description of various software tools used by faculty in the preparation and delivery of distance learning courses. In addition to this text, each of the chapters is supported by a set of web pages that provide updated information concerning innovations and changes in distance learning technologies and related issues.
